Description

This research opportunity is with the U.S. Army Garrison Italy, Army Community Service Division.  This Division facilitates and assesses comprehensive, coordinated, and responsive human health services that support readiness and resilience of Soldiers, civilian employees and their Families for all U.S. Army activities throughout Italy.

The Army Community Service (ACS) Research Participant at the installation level will contribute to professional and technical research projects for personnel intake and assessment. There will be four main research projects the participant will take part in: 1) Contribute to the development of and use of self-assessment, community assessment, and various measurement tools to identify trends, organizational needs and Army and unit demographic profiles. 2) Participate in implementing research studies to assess community social needs and assist with utilizing research studies to provide continuing quality of life services to the entire community. 3) Contribute to utilizing results to develop and plan management that can better deliver social service programs, classes, and trainings to enhance community and social well-being.  4) Assess, analyze, and document results of impacts to community resiliency. The participant can hope to learn how to conduct a community survey, compile and aggregate survey data, analyze data, and present survey data findings and offer actionable recommendations.

Appointment Length

This appointment is a seven month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

Participant Benefits

Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by Army Garrison Italy. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location.  Other benefits may include the following:

  • Relocation Allowance
  • Training and Travel Allowance

Nature of Appointment

The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency.  Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications

The candidate should be currently pursuing or have earned an Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree. 

Preferred skills:

  • Knowledge of social services delivery systems and concepts, principles, and theories relating to one or more of the social behavioral science fields
  • Knowledge of conducting interviews to gather information on the nature and extent of a variety of quality of life problems/issues
  • Ability to evaluate concerns and needs and provide assistance in developing goals and plans
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to collaborate well in a fast paced team environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Knowledge in assisting clients in identifying and understanding behavioral patterns and attitudes that affect their personal situations
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and ability to work independently and as a team member
Eligibility Requirements
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen Only
  • Degree: Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Master's Degree received within the last 60 months or currently pursuing.
