Description

A fellowship opportunity is available with the National Partnerships Team of the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAP), Prevention Communication Branch within the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Joining the National Partnerships Team, the selected participant will collaborate on expanding the number of diverse partners from all sectors that can influence the HIV prevention norms, behaviors and attitudes of high risk and highly impacted groups and populations. An emphasis will be placed on promoting HIV/AIDS awareness, communication, and prevention through the strategic development of diverse partnerships. Specific opportunities may include:

  • Develop, facilitate and manage strategic partnerships by disseminating and exchanging information through oral and written briefings, resolving problems, and meeting timelines;
  • Develop and/or implement public health programs through health communication proposals and effective communication and collaboration with internal and external partners, in order to further the mission of the organization;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of public health program activities by examining methods used, collaborating with internal and external contacts, and meeting established timelines;
  • Provide consultation and technical advice in the development and implementation of priorities, strategies, and practices for communicating with various audiences;
  • Develop and present printed, electronic, and audiovisual materials for technical and lay audiences, scientific journals, and Internet and other mass-media outlets; and
  • Collaborate as appropriate to provide expertise and support related to health communication and marketing programs and activities.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

Qualifications
  • A Master’s Degree received within the last five years, or completion of all requirements for the degree should be expected prior to the starting date.
  • Experience in public health, health communications, partnership development and knowledge of HIV prevention is preferred.
