Description

The National Security Directorate at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) seeks highly qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the field of data science, with particular interest in network identification and data visualization. 

We are especially interested in enthusiastic candidates that can demonstrate significant experience with a wide range of data science applications.  Our Postdoctoral Research Associates have initial one-year appointments, with an option to renew for up to three years, depending on project needs and the continued availability of funding. The salary and benefits are competitive.

We encourage publication of non-classified results of research efforts, and appreciate candidates that can demonstrate their scientific productivity through peer-reviewed publications and novel research approaches to complex problems.

Successful candidates will have relevant data science experience, critical thinking skills, data processing skills, and a demonstrated ability to synthesize these skills into effective experimental design, execution, and reporting.  

Location: This job will be located at Savannah River National Laboratory, Aiken, SC.

Compensation: Competitive salary with benefits.

Hours: Full-Time.

Expected Start Date: The position is full-time and expected to begin in May 2018. The selected candidate will be a temporary employee of ORAU working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at SRNL. The initial project is one year, with an option to renew for up to three additional 12 month periods, depending on project needs and the continued availability of funding.

Qualifications

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be a US Citizen,
  • Have earned a Ph.D. in Business Statistics, Computer Sciences, Population Ecology, Population Medicine/Public Health/Epidemiology, Virology, Mathematics and Statistics, Analytical Chemistry, Demography, Economics, Linguistic Anthropology, Sociology (except Social Work), or related field from an accredited university or college within the last 60 months, and
  • Be capable of obtaining a security clearance.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Work Experience, and Education

Successful candidate will have:

  • Relevant data science experience
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Data processing skills

Candidate shall have demonstrated ability to synthesize these skills into effective experimental design, execution, and reporting. 

Desired Knowledge, Skills, Work Experience, and Education

It is desirable for the candidate to have:

  • Advanced knowledge of data processing and visualization software such as Wolfram Mathematica, R, etc.
  • Experience in network identification (graph theory)
  • Experience visualizing complex and multidimensional data and data relationships
  • Advanced communication (written and oral) skills
  • Ability to work autonomously
