An opportunity is available in the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT), at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. The fellow will join the Health Education and Promotion Team in the Translation, Health Education, and Evaluation Branch in DDT.
The fellow will assist senior staff in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of various behavior change activities. This individual will support audience research efforts, strategy and content development, implementation, and evaluation; and will inform the translation and dissemination of science to different audiences using various formats.
Tasks may include:
• Assists with audience research to identify knowledge gaps, check reaction to messages, test channels, and develop materials based on that research
• Support the development and presentation of printed, electronic, and audiovisual materials for technical audiences and Tailor science-based content to specific audiences using a range of formats (i.e., print, Web, podcasts).
• Help senior staff analyze health problems and apply human centered design theories and models.
• Help test concepts, materials, and messages with representative members of the target audience.
• Help formulate strategies, priorities, and practices for reaching and inspiring behavior change with various audiences (e.g., general public, underserved populations, and populations at risk).
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
• Master’s degree or equivalent in public health or health communication earned within the past five years.
• Knowledge of audience research and evaluation methods.
• Experience writing high-quality health-related (scientific) content for a variety of formats
• Knowledge about diabetes or chronic diseases is a plus.
