A research opportunity is available in the Emergency Response and Recovery Branch (ERRB) within the Center for Global Health’s Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA.
The participant will gain experience in the field of public health emergency management as part of the Global Response Preparedness Team (GRPT). This project will focus on the development of public health preparedness plans, standard operating procedures and exercises in order to build the response capacity of partner nations’ Ministries of Health.
Under the guidance of a mentor, the fellow will assist GRPT with the following activities:
- Assisting in the drafting, testing and revising of national-level public health response plans and procedures with international Ministry of Health partners.
- Assisting with the conduction of formative and summative evaluations of trainings and workshops conducted with international partners.
- Participating in the design and implementation of project monitoring and evaluation procedures.
- Conducting background research on public health emergency management best practices.
- Contributing to the development of publications regarding public health emergency management best practices.
- Engaging and maintaining relationships with international partners for project implementation.
The appointment will begin in November 2017 and continue through August 2018. Position renewal is subject to the availability of funds and performance. The participant will receive a monthly stipend depending on background and experience. The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance. The appointment is full time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. The Research Participation Program for the CDC is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education. Participants do not become employees of CDC or ORISE, and there are no fringe benefits paid.
- A master’s degree or higher in a field related to public health or emergency management. Degrees must have been earned within the last five years.
- Knowledge of basic emergency management concepts.
- Professional proficiency in Spanish highly desirable.
- Degree: Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree received within the last 60 month(s).
