Four postgraduate fellowship opportunities are currently available at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Center for Global Health (CGH). The appointment will be served with the within the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) Policy Team, in Atlanta, Georgia.
The fellows will be an integral part of the Center for Global Health, Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) Policy Team or Science Team. They will be involved with several projects and activities in the domains of strategy, partnerships, issues management, legislative affairs, policy development, and high level team effort. High priority areas of involvement include Zika and the Global Health Security Agenda.
The fellows may be involved in the following activities:
- Researching best practices related to legislative affairs, budget development and justification, and partner advocacy and translating them into recommendations for DGHP.
- Conducting environmental scans of global health security initiatives and stakeholders to identify potential new engagements for DGHP.
- Writing reports, abstracts, articles, and policy briefs, creating infographics, and making oral presentations to disseminate DGHP's strategic messages.
- Supporting visits by Ambassadors, Ministers of Health, and other dignitaries to CDC HQ, as well as visits by CDC leadership to external events and field visits.
- Keeping up to date with developments in the Zika response, responding to Zika-related queries, and contributing to Zika reports from CDC.
- Serving as an advisor on matters related to the strategic direction of the organization and identifying opportunities for the Division to grow.
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of policy initiatives to advance the mission of the organization.
- Planning, direct and coordinate national and international progress on issues related to public health.
- Helping with the development of visible and influential statements relating to program policy, goals, and direction of the organization.
- Assisting with the development, dissemination, and reporting on new budget initiatives.
- Coordinating with other offices, divisions, and centers of CDC to promote synergy and alignment of efforts.
- Responding to requests for information and managing critical issues as they emerge.
- Assist in scientific coordination including scientific publications, human subjects oversite, and scientific clearance.
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
- Must possess a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree with major study in an academic field related to the health sciences, social sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position within the last five years. A masters degree in public health, public policy, public administration, economics, social work, law, or business (complete or in progress) is preferable.

Prior experience in the fields of global health, health policy, health economics, strategy, Congressional affairs, or health communications is desired.
