Description

Cyclotron Road provides a home for top entrepreneurial researchers developing hard materials and manufacturing innovations that are too challenging to pursue in the private sector.  Our goal is to help these projects achieve focused technology development objectives in a discrete period of time to facilitate the transition from lab to market.

While a primary focus of Cyclotron Road is to address the gap between early-stage energy technologies and impactful commercial outcomes, the program presents an exceptional platform for the educational and professional development of scientists and engineers interested in energy efficiency and renewable energy technology.

The Cyclotron Road Applied Research Experience (ARE) Program provides a mentored opportunity for pre-doctoral scientists and engineers to apply their education in support of an impact-driven R&D project. Through participation in this prestigious program, participants will:

  • Apply their scientific and engineering expertise to help solve critical technical development challenges identified by Cyclotron Road projects.
  • Gain deep insight into entrepreneurial applied R&D and energy technology commercialization through mentorship and hands-on experience.
  • Help develop innovative technologies that will have a real impact on the US economy, environment, and society.

Please visit www.cyclotronroad.org/are for more information.

Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their academic and research record, interest and opportunity for educational growth in applying their technical skills and knowledge to a Cyclotron Road project, and potential for making contributions to the project for which they are applying.

Applicants are encouraged to contact the Project Leads for specific project opportunities (contact information available at cyclotronroad.org/are) to indicate their interest in applying.  Project Leads will be asked to submit a letter of endorsement for individual candidates. Review of applications and endorsements will be conducted by the Cyclotron Road team and final selections will be made by the DOE EERE Advanced Manufacturing Office sponsoring the program.
