A postgraduate internship opportunity is available at the EPA Headquarters, Office of Wetlands, Oceans and Watersheds (OWOW), Office of Water in Washington, DC.
OWOW promotes a watershed approach to manage, protect, and restore the water resources and aquatic ecosystems of our marine and fresh waters. This strategy is based on the premise that water quality and ecosystem problems are best solved at the watershed level and that local citizens play an integral role in achieving clean water goals.
The project involves developing and communicating key water data messages from EPA and its intermediaries to educate the public and key stakeholders about water pollution and solutions, enhancing public awareness of these issues, and encouraging stewardship of waters on a local, regional and national basis.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and EPA.
Applicants must have received a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology or in ecology within five years of the desired start date or completion of all requirements for the degree should be expected prior to the starting date.
The appointment is full time for one year and may be renewed upon recommendation of EPA and contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend. The annual stipend will start at $43,057. Funding may be made available to reimburse the participant’s travel expenses to present the results of his/her research at scientific conferences. No funding will be made available to cover travel costs for pre-appointment visits, relocation costs, tuition and fees, or participant’s health insurance. The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance. The participant does not become an EPA employee.
