A fellowship is available within the Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT), Translation, Health Education and Evaluation Branch (THEE Branch) to support the synthesis and translation of best available evidence for diabetes prevention and control, and specifically the design and implementation of a rigorous, real-world evaluation of the effectiveness and scalability of selected behaviorally-based enrollment interventions to increase uptake of the CDC-recognized lifestyle change program to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. It is a top priority for DDT to increase the number of people at high risk for type 2 diabetes who participate in this evidence-based and cost-effective program.
The Fellow will gain experience on the Translation Team within the THEE Branch, which in addition to our synthesis and translation work also serves as a bridge and fosters collaboration between the Epidemiology and Statistics Branch and the Program Implementation Branches within DDT. A key objective of the Fellowship is to inform recommendations to CDC regarding new strategies for CDC’s grantees and partners in the CDC-led National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) to increase uptake of the lifestyle change intervention.
This position will provide strategic support for the synthesis and translation of best available evidence for diabetes prevention and control, particularly the design and implementation of a 3-year project to rigorously evaluate the real-world effectiveness and scalability of behaviorally-based enrollment interventions to increase uptake of the CDC-recognized lifestyle change program.
The Fellow will facilitate key activities, gather relevant documents and conduct background research to support the translation of best available evidence, which may include developing an evaluation plan, convening a panel of experts, implementing the evaluation plan, summarizing and disseminating evaluation results, and developing recommendations and guidance from the evaluation.
The Fellow will coordinate the provision of technical assistance (TA) to intervention sites in the evaluation project to ensure intervention fidelity in the implementation of behaviorally-based enrollment intervention. He/She will also assist with monitoring data collection and quality assurance activities across all the evaluation project sites.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC’s Chamblee Campus, 4770 Buford Highway, Chamblee, GA 30341. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.
