Description

The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine's (USARIEM) team is engaged in essential medical research focused on optimizing service members and women's health and performance during training and on the battlefield. USARIEM conducts this mission with unique facilities and top scientists, both soldiers, and Civilians. Our research teams collaborate extensively with intra and interdepartmental, national, and global partners. 

Throughout this ORISE appointment, the participant will support the research at USARIEM through imaging computers and loading software. Participants in the Information Management fellowship will collaborate with scientists and engineers to troubleshoot hardware and software. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will assist in analyzing current processes and facilitate automated solutions using common scripting languages. Participants will learn how enterprises manage computing assets in a domain-joined environment and understand how these environments automate essential services that enhance research and line of business applications.

Appointment Length

This appointment is a four-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant. 

Participant Benefits

Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by USARIEM. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

  • Relocation Allowance

  • Training and Travel Allowance

Nature of Appointment

The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency.  Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications

Computer science or information technology majors would be the most natural fit. Communications skills and a desire to learn and grow are essential. Prior experience in the following areas is also beneficial:

  • Programming
  • Scripting
  • Hardware troubleshooting
  • Software troubleshooting
  • Process improvement

  • Degree: High School Diploma/GED, Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Master's Degree received within the last 60 months or anticipated to be received by 5/31/2021 12:00:00 AM.
