Description

The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM) Military Nutrition Division (MND) is offering an internship.

What will I be doing?

As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to design nutritional solutions for improving the health and performance of military personnel.

Studies within the MND have identified relationships between gut microbiota, physiology, metabolism, and health and performance outcomes in military personnel. Ongoing studies are using nutritional approaches targeting the gut microbiota to improve military performance. As the selected candidate, you will support this line of research.

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands-on experience to complement your education and support your academic and professional goals. Along the way, you will engage in activities and research in several areas. These include, but are not limited to,

  • Engaging in the execution of randomized controlled trials conducted at the USARIEM and at locations throughout the United States.
  • Receiving hands-on experience collecting, processing, and analyzing biological samples and human subjects' data.
  • Learning and conducting research techniques, including ELISA, qPCR, flow cytometry, indirect calorimetry, stable isotopes, and exercise testing.
  • Gaining experience analyzing and interpreting data for presentation and publication.
