Description

A research opportunity is available at with the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR), located at the Fort Sam Houston,TX. This USAISR opportunity is to participate in research on medical informatics, critical care decision support systems, and automation technologies for the critical care environment. This fellow will participate in protocols to validate existing decision support systems, develop new decision support architectures for both trauma and burn intensive care units, and exploring different automation modalities to facilitate use of computer systems to off load provider workload in a critical care setting.

The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) student internship program provides opportunities for students interested in science, engineering or medical career fields to participate in research directed at improving the care of injured military service members and society at large. Participant Benefits

Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by USAISR. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

  • Training and Travel Allowance

Nature of Appointment

The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

While participants will not enter into an employment relationship with DOD or any other agency, this opportunity will require a suitability investigation/background investigation. Any offer made is considered tentative pending favorable outcome of the investigation.

Qualifications

Applicants must have received a Master's or Postdoctoral degree in Medical Information Systems, Biomedical Engineering (with a focus on IT), computer science (with a medical focus), or physiology (with a medical informatics or information technology emphasis) within five (5) years of the desired starting date.

U.S. Citizenship is Required.
