The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research is offering an Established Scientist fellowship.
What will I be doing?
You will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to develop a next generation tourniquet for medical providers.
The objective of this fellowship program is to train and participate in the research and develop of a next generation tourniquet for medical providers in the far forward environment. The participant will be trained in the methods to gather device requirements from industry partners, design, and develop an intelligent tourniquet system with novel sensors and establish and demonstrate the efficacy and safety of the tested technology. In addition, the fellow will assist the principal investigator and other team members with protocol writing, preparing data, and writing publications. The fellow may also broaden their scope and participate in other research projects within this CRT.

What is the anticipated start date?
The USAISR is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
What is the appointment length?
This appointment is a five month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
What are the benefits?
You will receive a stipend to be determined by USAISR. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
You will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD, or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research is one of six research laboratories within the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command of the U.S. Army Medicine Command. The Institute is the Army's lead research laboratory for improving the care of combat casualties. The mission of the Institute is to "Optimize Combat Casualty Care". The USAISR has an Engineering Technology and Automation Combat Research Team (CRT) with the goals to create technologies that will assist medical providers with life-saving interventions in the Prolonged Field Care (PFC) Environment. This CRT also automates existing technologies to improve critical care, combat, and burn injuries.
Candidate should have a PhD in one of the disciplines. The candidate should have a background in material science, engineering, sensor development, additive manufacturing and/or other related scientific research
