The U.S. Army Garrison - Italy is offering student internships at the Vicenza, Italy location.

What will I be doing?

As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to support soldier transition.

This opportunity is with the US Army Garrison Italy, Transition Assistance Program (TAP). The mission of the TAP is to deliver a world-class transition program for America’s Army that empowers members to make informed career decisions that enhances lives, communities and our nation. This program enables Soldiers and family members to prepare for transition to the civilian sector. In addition, the program assists Soldiers to make informed decisions using transition program services and provides re-enlistment options. It is all about making informed decisions – setting Soldiers up for success. This program provides research support to the Transitions Assistance Program by researching policies and procedures pertaining to the program.

Why should I apply?

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will engage in a variety of research activities, including:

  • Collect, organize and evaluate data for the marketing, development, preparation, and results of the program's administration.
  • Research and collect data to assess the effectiveness of career search techniques and career fairs for soldiers transitioning into the workforce.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of IT equipment in meeting the needs of the program and reporting the results.
  • Collect, organize and analyze customer service needs as NDAA 2019 is implemented
  • Assist in development of a social media outreach program

Where will I be located?  Vicenza, Italy

What is the anticipated start date?

Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

What is the appointment length?

This appointment is a twelve-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

What are the benefits?

Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by USAG-Italy. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location.  Other benefits may include the following:

  • Health Insurance Supplement. Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE.

  • Relocation Allowance

  • Training and Travel Allowance

About USAG-Italy

About ORISE

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.  Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have earned or be currently pursuing an Associate's, bachelor's or master's degree.

Highly competitive candidates will have education and/or experience in one or more of the following:

•  Experience in utilizing a wide variety of resources and information to obtain a correct answer to a situation or question.
•  Experience in applying a variety of communication methods and techniques to market and promote activities.
•  Experience in planning and developing methods to monitor goals and objectives.
•  Knowledge and skills in collecting, compiling, analyzing and reporting program outcomes.
•  Excellent customer service skills, open to new ideas, and ability to work well in a team environments.
•  At least one year of experience as a volunteer
