Description

Aerospace Medicine Studies and Analysis Support Branch at the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM), in the 711th Human Performance Wing of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is offering a research fellowship for those who are currently enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral degree program or a graduate of such a program.

What will I be doing?

As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to determine if perceptions of connectedness and learning increased across gender groups by using descriptive statistics such as the mode and median to make comparisons of pre/post course submissions of the Rovai Classroom Community Scale in the "Educational Delivery Models and Perceived Participant Connection" study. A two-way ANOVA will also be used to make comparisons across the three instructional delivery models. Thematic analysis of the post-participation interview transcripts will add additional insight into potential differences in the experiences of all genders represented in the cohorts.

Why should I apply?

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands-on experience to complement your education and support your academic and professional goals. Along the way, you will engage in activities and research in several areas. These include, but are not limited to,

  • Conducting qualitative interviews of participants in AFRL leadership/supervisor development programs
  • Analyzing the qualitative data generated as well as existing quantitative data sets
  • Drafting and presenting research results as part of the research team
  • Gaining experience in research project management as you interact with both internal and external team members

Where will I be located?

Remote participation is optional. On-site: Beavercreek, Ohio

What is the anticipated start date?

Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

What is the appointment length?

This appointment is a twelve-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

What are the benefits?

You will receive a stipend to be determined by USAFSAM. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

  • Health Insurance Supplement (Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE)
  • Relocation Allowance
