Description

We seek an enthusiastic and creative chemist, chemical engineer or materials scientist to help develop novel and innovative applications from diverse basic-sciences research projects.  Experience with organic materials, polymers, nanomaterials, and/or surfactants is very advantageous. The successful candidate should have a demonstrably strong background in optical, structural and physical characterization methods, applied to multiple materials. Excellent communication skills are highly advantageous in this position because the projects to which the successful candidate will be assigned involve working closely with university partners.

The focus of the project is to develop radiation-sensitive materials. To ensure the project is successful, the appointee will need to work with various organic compounds and analyze and test various polymer samples. The studies will require sample preparation, data analysis, sample characterization, experimental planning, customer interaction, and report and manuscript preparation. We encourage all research team members to lead scientific and technical publications of non-classified research.

Qualifications

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be a US Citizen,
  • Have earned a Ph.D. from an accredited university or college within the last 60 months, and
  • Be capable of obtaining a security clearance.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Work Experience, and Education

Experience in organic or organo-metallic chemistry and materials including polymerization, synthesis, characterization, materials applications, and product development are very desirable. Additionally experience in magnetism, spectroscopy, modeling, and nuclear detection would be very useful.
