ORNL Cybersecurity Research Laboratory Technology Associate
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy, environment, and security.
The Cybersecurity Research Group within the Cyber and Applied Data Analytics Division (CYBERAPP) at ORNL is seeking a junior or senior undergraduate computer science student to be part of a team developing, documenting, and maintaining experimental client software for encrypted data storage and transmission. The successful candidate will participate in internal feature design meetings and will be the primary point of contact for the client software as development progresses. The candidate must be able to understand the design goals, determine method to create solutions, and implement and document them.
Candidates should currently be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
Required Skills:
- Direct communication with sponsors will be necessary, so excellent verbal and written skills are required.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in the following programming languages: C, Python, and Rust.
- Ability to develop, implement, and document design processes and solutions.

The ORNL Laboratory Technology Associate Program is administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities through its contract with DOE to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE).
