Description

The Bioenergy Resource and Engineering Systems team in the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Environmental Sciences Division is an interdisciplinary team of economists, agricultural engineers, and environmental scientists who address issues of biomass feedstock resources and impacts of supplying biomass to facilities for production of fuels, power/heat, or bioproducts. The team is part of the ORNL Bioenergy Technologies Program which supports the U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office whose goal is to transform the renewable and abundant biomass resources of the U.S. into cost competitive, high performance biofuels, bioproducts, and biopower. Designing innovative biomass supply chains to achieve cost, quantity, and quality targets is an important research focus of the BRES team.

A position is available for a Post-Master’s Research Associate to perform analysis of biomass supply chains for quantifying impacts and limitations of supply system design and operation. The successful candidate will develop biomass supply chain simulations to assess impacts of new, innovative technologies and system designs on costs and risk.

Qualifications

The successful applicant must have a MS degree in engineering, or related field, with experience in analysis of agriculture and/or forestry harvest and logistics operations.

Coursework or experience in simulation and modeling, bioenergy, and statistics is desired. Programming experience in Python and ExtendSim are preferred.
