Post-Bachelor's Research Associate in Carbon Fiber Development
The Materials Science and Technology Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a candidate for a post-bachelor's research participant position to support ongoing programs for developing lower-cost carbon fiber with novel mechanical properties and surface and morphological characteristics.
The selected candidate will evaluate carbon-fiber precursors by mechanical and thermal-mechanical testing and assisting the PI and other researchers in converting precursor into carbon fiber on ORNL's Precursor Evaluation System and ORNL's Pilot line. They will also evaluate advanced conversion processes, and evaluate resulting carbon fiber properties for mechancial properties and surface and morphological characteristics.
Applicants must have a B. S. degree in materials science and engineering or a closely related field. Previous experience in conducting laboratory experimental activities such as materials processing and testing is required.
Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than three years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements.
