Post-Master's Research Associate - Characterization of Nuclear Graphite Materials
The Material Science and Technology Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) offers a Post-Master’s level research participant position focusing on characterizing the microstructures and mechanical, physical, and thermal properties of graphitic materials potentially suitable for use in graphite-moderated nuclear reactors. The position also will involve studies investigating relationships between the graphitic materials’ microstructures and their properties. The successful candidate will work closely with expert team members and subject-matter experts in a supporting role, and will ensure compliance with applicable environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment implementing and perpetuating ORNL values and ethics.
The successful candidate must have a master’s degree or equivalent in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or closely related field, with at least two years of significant education in materials science and/or engineering for reactor applications, microstructural characterization, mechanical properties characterization, or an equivalent combination of education. S/he also must have excellent communication skills (both oral and written) in order to interact effectively with a diverse set of scientific, technical and administrative staff; they must also be able to work both independently and within a high-performance team environment.
Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.
