Project Description
This ORISE Fellow will participate in the National Secure Data Service (NSDS) Demonstration project and policy analysis under the mentorship of the NCSES Research Director. The Fellow will analyze the lessons learned from NSDS and related research projects, be a thought partner in identifying gaps in research agenda coverage, and research new ideas to address those gaps. The Fellow will gain exposure to the federal data and evidence ecosystem and will learn about strategies to use federal, state, local, and tribal data for evidence-building. The Fellow will learn methods, opportunities, and challenges for accessing and analyzing federal data assets valuable for research and evidence-building. The Fellow will develop a network of federal staff and project partners engaged in this research.

This is a fully remote opportunity.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by NCSES. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:
• Health Insurance Supplement. Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE.
• Training and Travel allowance for professional development.
Duration
This Fellowship is a 12-month appointment and can be extended for a total period of five years based on performance and need. Note: The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOE, NSF, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

- Ability to synthesize research findings and to find themes and patterns.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and deliver on time.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with the Office 365 suite.
- Ability to collaborate effectively.
- Demonstrated capacity to participate in a positive and supportive environment.
- Capability to participate autonomously and take initiative in completing projects.
- Exhibit a high level of professionalism in all interactions, including communication, appearance, and conduct.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and precision in data analysis and project execution.
- The ability to critically analyze and evaluate complex information, data, and situations to make informed decisions and recommendations.
- Proficiency in written communication, including the capacity to convey ideas, findings, and recommendations clearly and effectively through various written formats.
- Strong research capabilities, including the ability to gather, synthesize, and interpret information from diverse sources to support evidence-based decision-making.
