Description

The Atmospheric Turbulence and Diffusion Division (ATDD), located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee is looking for a graduate level intern to learn and assist with atmospheric research. ATDD's research is focused on air quality, climate, and dispersion-related research directed toward issues of national and global importance.

NOAA’s paid graduate level engineering internship will occur over the summer of 2019. Interns hired for this position will perform challenging tasks while developing Materials Engineering, Data Analysis, and Weather Forecasting skills.  Come be a part of something big and help support the efforts to build and maintain a Weather Ready Nation while gaining valuable knowledge and honing your skills. Did we mention the networking opportunities? The engineering graduate student will learn to perform the following tasks:

  • Assist in data acquisition from both unmanned aircraft during short-term field deployments

  • Produce software to facilitate the generation of plots of meteorological data obtained from the aircraft in near-real time

  • Analyze meteorological datasets obtained from the 2 separate aircraft to help improve scientific understanding of the temporal evolution of temperature, moisture, and wind fields within the lowest 1 km of Earth’s atmosphere. This includes, but is not limited to, the study of pre-convective environments, the early morning transition period, early evening transition period, etc.

Qualifications
  • Be at least 18 years of age and

  • Have earned a Bachelors Degree in Material Science Engineering or other related degree from an accredited university or college within the last 60 months and

  • Be a US citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident.

  • Degree: Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree received within the last 60 months or anticipated to be received by 5/30/2020 12:00:00 AM.
