Description

Participants will assist the Health Analysis Department in querying and analyzing MHS clinical data, interpreting the data, and documenting trends to share findings to provide valuable insights on a variety of topics regarding specific populations, conditions, procedures and populations. The ORISE Epidemiologists will have direct access to the most comprehensive clinical databases in the Military Health System (MHS) to provide clinical health analysis and consultative support to improve clinical outcomes and processes, ensure mission readiness, and evaluate and identify programs and services across Navy and Marine Corps and MHS. SAS 9.4 will be used for data management and analysis on a daily basis. Microsoft Office products will also be used on a regular basis to develop reports and briefs. Project topics will include clinical performance measurement to change clinical processes and improve patient outcomes and reduce costs, which may be done through clinical health analysis, epidemiologic and evidence-based methods, and process improvements. Focus will also be on access and quality of care. HA’s products drive more effective health care standards and practices to improve clinical outcomes and reduce costs for the customers. 

Participants will work with a team  of experts, including preventive medicine physicians, clinical epidemiologists, biostatisticians, nurses with clinical management experience, cancer registrars and project managers.

This ORISE opportunity is scheduled to be a twelve month appointment; the renewal or continuation of the research appointment is contingent upon facility approval and upon the continued availability of funds.  Renewals are offered up to one year at a time, for a total of up to five years of research participation.
