The National Library of Medicine Associate Fellowship is a one-year residency program for recent library science graduates interested in a career in health sciences librarianship. The program combines curriculum and project work and is located at the National Library of Medicine on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and the National Library of Medicine (NLM). The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of NLM contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive an annual stipend of $56,233; additional supplement for health insurance; relocation funding; and travel and training support to attend conferences. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at NIH NLM in the Washington, DC area. Participants do not become employees of NLM, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.

Master's degree in an ALA-accredited library/information science program, earned by August of the year of appointment or within the previous two years. (Undergraduate degree can be in any major.)
