The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Office of Global Research (OGR) is seeking candidates who are interested in learning about the work of NIAID, specifically infectious disease research in various regions and to perform analysis of the bilateral and multilateral programs between NIAID and international partners. NIAID conducts and supports basic and applied research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases.
What will I be doing?
This research opportunity will focus on conducting analysis of infectious disease and international research projects supported through various NIAID-supported mechanisms such as the e-ASIA Joint Research Program, U.S. Japan Collaborative Medical Sciences Program and others, the analysis of research collaborative awards funded by NIAID and international research trends and capacity in international settings. The opportunity will also identify researchers working in specific scientific areas, including immunology and infectious diseases, identify researchers supported through collaborative research grants, identify and utilize ways to assess research productivity, resulting from the collaborative research support (e.g. publications, other grants, presentations, patents, etc.), and will compare success between collaborative research programs.

The appointment is full-time at NIAID in the Rockville, Maryland, area.
Benefits
The selected candidates will receive a stipend as support for living and other expenses during this appointment. Stipend rates are determined by NIAID officials and are based on the candidate’s academic and professional background. In addition, NIAID may provide a supplement to the stipend to cover health insurance premiums for ORISE providers, as necessary.
Length of Appointment
The initial appointment is typically twelve months, and may be renewed yearly up to a maximum of 4 additional years upon recommendation of NIAID, contingent on the availability of funds. Shorter durations may also be requested.
When are selections made:?
Based on funding availability and available projects, the NIAID actively reviews applications throughout the year and looks to fill opportunities as soon as qualified applicants are identified.
Nature of Appointment
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Participants do not become employees of NIH, NIAID, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields.

- Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of procedures and their contribution to organizational goals and objectives
- Ability to make recommendations based on evaluations
- Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills
- Research or analytical skills
- International experience, and non-English language skills (in addition to English)
