The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is a unique combination of combat support agency and intelligence agency. We are the world leader in timely, relevant, accurate, and actionable GEOINT. Anyone who fights wars, locates targets, sails a U.S. ship, flies a U.S. aircraft, makes national policy decisions, responds to natural disasters, or even navigates with a cell phone relies on NGA.
NGA "Moonshot," contained within the NGA Director's Intent, is an operational goal by which we will organize, prioritize, and measure the progress of NGA's goal to lead a revolution of Geospatial Intelligence. NGA will take urgent and decisive action to move away from old ways of doing business and adopt new, improved ways of doing business to stay well ahead of adversaries as we provide our customers with timely, relevant, accurate, and actionable geospatial information.
The Moonshot operational goal is named after an assertion made by former President John F. Kennedy in September of 1962 that the United States would take on the challenge of being the first to land personnel on the moon as a measure or our resolve, determination, and skills.
NGA declares our own moonshot to organize, prioritize, and measure our progress against the strategic concepts set forth in the NGA Director's Intent document. We set this goal to hold ourselves accountable to one another and to those we serve. We set this goal to keep our sights firmly fixed on the threats before us and to deliver our rounds on target. While continuing to contribute to larger efforts to help the United States and Allies compete successfully in this strategic environment, short of conflict, we will be laser focused on developing and delivering the critical capabilities we uniquely provide the joint, multi-national warfighting force.
Moonshot takes in to account the National Security Strategy, the National Defense Strategy, the National Intelligence Strategy, the NGA Director's Intent, the NGA Strategy, and the NGA Mission Imperatives.
The Director’s Intent is an expression of the conditions NGA must establish to accomplish its mission and desired end state, through three tangible actions:
Give primacy to our core missions,
Be the world’s premier GEOINT force, and
Relentlessly pursue a whole-of-enterprise approach.
NGA Strategy describes the ways and means through which we will achieve the objectives set forth in the intent.
