The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Office of Research is offering summer faculty fellowships for the summer of 2023. NGA’s HBCU Summer Faculty Research Fellowship is a 10-week paid appointment which matches fellows with an NGA mentor.
What will I be doing?
As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to increase engagement and partnerships between Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and NGA.

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will engage in a variety of research activities. Research areas vary and will be assigned based on the candidate's skills and interests. The topics may include:
Where will I be located? Those with security clearances will be assigned to either the Springfield, VA, or St. Louis, MO, location. Those without a security clearance will either be assigned to the St. Louis, MO, location or will perform research at their home institution, under the guidance of an NGA mentor.
What are the benefits?
As the selected candidate, you will receive a $35,000 stipend for participation in the 10-week program and may also be eligible for a travel allowance.
What is the anticipated start date?
The deadline for application submission is 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday, March 31, 2023. Appointments will begin in the first or second week of June. The exact start date will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate.

About ORISE
This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. To evaluate compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. § 1681 et.seq.), the Department of Defense (DoD) is collecting certain demographic and career information to be able to assess the success rates of women who are proposed for key roles in applications in science, technology, engineering or mathematics disciplines. In addition, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for FY 2019, Section 1286, directs the Secretary of Defense to protect intellectual property, controlled information, key personnel, and information about critical technologies relevant to national security and limit undue influence, including foreign talent programs by countries that desire to exploit United States’ technology within the DoD research, science and technology, and innovation enterprise. This requirement is necessary for all research and research-related educational activities.
Submission of an application for this position is authorization for NGA its representatives, and other federal agencies to obtain information relating to the applicants background, educational and professional activities, and online presence for the purpose of conducting risk-based assessments to identify and mitigate conflicts of commitment (CoC) and conflicts of interest (CoI) as defined by National Security Presidential Memorandum-33.
