Description

The Combat Casualty Care Directorate at the Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio seeks a highly motivated scientist as a postdoctoral fellow to perform research utilizing animal models of trauma care.  The participant will have the opportunity to accelerate the development of novel therapeutics in order to improve survival and health outcomes following prolonged field care.  This is a unique opportunity for a talented scientist with experience in physiology and/or cell and molecular biology to research in a dynamic and innovative environment to address leading the cause of potentially survivable death in both the military and civilian sector.

Under the direction of the mentor, the participant will:

-Assist in the formulation of research hypotheses, experimental design, conducting experiments, data acquisition, and interpretation.

-Perform surgical procedures to generate large animal models of traumatic hemorrhage.

-Perform assays to assess for cardiovascular/tissue perfusion, neurological, metabolic, immune/inflammatory, coagulation, and endothelial, function and dysfunction.

-Assist with the preparation of research funding proposals, IACUC protocols, technical reports, presentation materials, and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.

-Participate cross-functionally in a multidisciplinary environment using small and large animal models, as well as relevant molecular techniques for sample processing.

Preferred Experience:

-Experience performing surgeries and behavioral assessments in animal models, including basic techniques such as blood vessel cannulation.

-Experience writing manuscripts and abstracts for professional conferences and peer-reviewed journals.

- U.S. Citizenship is Required.

Qualifications

Preferred Experience:

- PhD in physiology and/or cell and molecular biology or related field.  Degree must have been completed within the past five years.

-Experience performing surgeries and behavioral assessments in animal models, including basic techniques such as blood vessel cannulation.

-Experience writing manuscripts and abstracts for professional conferences and peer-reviewed journals.

- U.S. Citizenship is Required.
