What will I be doing?

As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant you will gain hands-on experience under the guidance of a mentor to support their academic and professional goals. You will have an active role in the laboratory, gain research experience focused on the design and use of in vivo models to develop medical countermeasures against chemical threat agents.

Why should I apply?

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands-on experience to complement your education and support your academic and professional goals. Along the way, you will engage in activities and research in several areas. These include, but are not limited to,

  • Learning techniques involving small and large animal handling, organ dissection, plethysmography, and microscopy.
  • Physiological and clinicals assessment using medical techniques and devices.
  • Sample analysis using biochemical assays and ELISAs.
  • Participating in aspects of experimental design, troubleshooting, and data analysis

For additional information, please contact Danielle Zimmerman at danielle.c.zimmerman2.civ@health.mil.

USAMRICD has a culture of teamwork, as such you will learn how to be a member of a laboratory team and how teams of researchers accomplish a common research goal. In addition, you will have an opportunity to attend seminars for both professional and scientific development.

What is the anticipated start date?

The USAMRICD is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships or fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
