The Joint Science and Technology Institute for Students (JSTI-HS) is a two-week, fully-funded, residential introductory STEM research program for current high school students in the United States and Department of Defense schools around the world. Students will participate in research projects mentored by Department of Defense research scientists and other subject matter experts. The purpose of the program is to inspire and encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, increase STEM literacy, and expose students to the importance of STEM through hands-on, relevant research.
There are two locations for JSTI-HS. JSTI West will take place at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM from June 10-23, 2023. JSTI East will take place at Towson University in Towson, MD from July 15-28, 2023. Students from areas outside of the United States are eligible for JSTI East only. The successful applicant(s) will be required to comply with Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) requirements of the hosting facility, including but not limited to, COVID-19 requirements (e.g. facial covering, physical distancing, testing, vaccination).
I certify that I am a U.S. citizen, will be at least EITHER age 16 by June 10, 2023 for JSTI West OR or at least age 15 or older by July 15, 2023 for JSTI East, will be entering the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in the 2023-2024 academic year, have submitted a reference contact’s email address on the application, am willing to follow all program rules and policies and safety instructions, am able to participate in all activities for the full program period of June 10-23, 2023 (JSTI West) OR July 15-28, 2023 (JSTI East), am able to reside on-site throughout the full program, and am attending school in the United States or a DoDEA school outside the United States or am home schooled.
