The Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA) Directorate of Prevention, Resilience and Readiness (DPRR) located in Arlington, Virginia is offering a remote faculty fellowship.
What will I be doing?
As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers at the HQDA DPRR to develop and implement an Army-wide prevention system that facilitates data-informed actions to integrate primary prevention activities and prevent harmful behaviors. The project will focus on research-based and data-informed orientation of the Army’s prevention programs, policies, and practices.
Why should I apply?
- Literature reviews and logic model development related to primary prevention of sexual assault, harassment, suicide, domestic abuse, and child abuse and neglect to guide evaluation efforts (e.g., review of evidence-based approaches for primary prevention and their application in Military communities)
- Process evaluation of prevention activities (policies, programs, and practices)
- Conducting qualitative, quantitative and mixed method analyses of prevention activities (policies, programs, and practices)
- Identification of metrics to be used for process and outcome evaluations of prevention activities
- Conducting needs assessments and comprehensive integrated primary prevention plan development
- Strategic level collaboration to support the implementation of integrated primary prevention during military organizational and prevention system transformation
What is the anticipated start date?
Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and internships or fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
What is the appointment length?
The stipend range will be approximately $2,000.00- $5,000.00/month and will be determined by HQDA. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other provisions may include the following:
- Health Insurance Supplement (Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE)

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE. - Knowledge and/or experience in planning, organizing, implementing, analyzing, and integrating comprehensive primary prevention efforts
- Knowledge of the public health approach to prevention
- Experience in literature reviews for public health or prevention science topics
- Knowledge and/or experience in interpreting and analyzing data that will be used in understanding the scope of harmful behaviors in a military community
- Understanding of analytic approaches that can be used to evaluate individual prevention activities and the combined effects of multiple prevention activities across the individual, interpersonal, and organizational levels of the social ecology
- Experience in developing logic models
- Knowledge and/or experience in feasibility, evaluability, process and/or outcome evaluations
