The mission of the HHS is to enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.

Research Project: OASH is seeking an epidemiologist, or an individual who has studied or has experience with epidemiology, surveillance, evaluation, and collecting/analyzing data, to help inform, and provide technical assistance with documenting data to guide the work of the OIDP Team. We are seeking someone who can analyze data using statistical software such as SASS, SPSS, SUDAN, etc. to analyze HIV and other related data in the context of the Syndemics of HIV/STIs/viral hepatitis and health delivery systems serving people of color that will help improve our program outcomes. This project is funded by the Minority HIV Initiative.

The selected individual will provide our team with plain language descriptions of analysis of epidemiological reports by presenting informal updates at weekly or bi-weekly OIDP internal staff meetings on how information can be used to support our efforts toward Ending the HIV Epidemic in the United States (EHE) Initiative.

The individual will also provide suggestions on how to disseminate results to our key stakeholders through the HIV.gov blog and other distribution tools/vehicles.

The individual will also assess the effective use of America’s HIV Epidemic Analysis Dashboard (AHEAD), a public-facing dashboard supporting the EHE initiative. The AHEAD Dashboard supports the EHE initiative by tracking data on six HIV indicators that will have the greatest impact on ending the HIV epidemic in local communities and across the United States.

Learning Objectives: Under the guidance of a mentor, learning and experience benefits from this appointment will include:

  • The experience will serve to enhance the individual's presentation, public speaking, and give them the chance to contribute to a journal article of the outcomes based on the AHEAD Dashboard.
  • If an article cannot be done, the ORISE individual will be allowed to author up to 2 HIV.gov blog posts  or more which will provide scholarly recognition.
