Description

The DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) is a technology-led, innovation-focused program committed to delivering leading-edge high-performance computing (HPC) technology, networking,  and subject matter expertise to address the Department of Defense's (DoD's) most significant challenges in R&D, T&E, and Acquisition Engineering supporting higher resolution, higher fidelity modeling and data resulting in decreased time-to-solution and, subsequently, cost by orders of magnitude.

The High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) Resource Management (RM) team is responsible for the portal to the Information Environment (pIE), a web-based system that manages user accounts, controls HPC hour distribution, and monitors HPC usage. With the data collected in pIE, the HPCMP RM team gains valuable insights to ensure maximum usage of HPC resources by employing data analytic techniques and to gauge performance of the HPC systems, distribution of hours, and usage of HPC hours to support strategic decision-making.

Mission Impact:  You will make an impact DoD scientific community by being using your skills in database design, systems analysis, data science, and statistical analysis as a part of the HPCMP Resource Management (RM) team.

What will I be doing?

You will be granted access to the portal to the Information environment (pIE) to gain understanding of the pIE data architecture in order to regularly extract data from pIE using adhoc and/or scripted queries in an attempt to understand the performance and utilizatioin of DoD HPC computing resources and share insights into user behaviors. Under the guidance of a mentor, you will also design your own scripts to consider new ways of looking at the data and keep ongoing reference documents updated with latest data on a weekly basis.

Why should I apply?

This fellowship provides the opportunity to independently utilize your skills and engage with experts in innovative ideas to move the proposed research forward.

Where will I be located?  Remote or in person at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio

What is the anticipated start date? June 2023

Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate.
