Click on APPLY now to start your application.
The U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) (est. February 1, 1961) solves interdisciplinary, strategically important problems for the Corps of Engineers, Army, Department of Defense, and the Nation. CRREL discovers, develops, and delivers advanced and applied science and engineering to complex environments, materials, and processes in all seasons and climates. Within the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center, CRREL is a national resource focused on solving specific, customer-driven problems and conducting innovative research in five program areas - Civil Works - Engineered Resilient Systems - Environmental Quality & Installations - Geospatial Research & Engineering - Military Engineering.
What will I be doing?
You will collaborate with a team of junior and mid-level scientists to implement and document snow mobility algorithms within the GeoWATCH framework to expand the tool’s cold weather capabilities. You will learn new land surface modeling platforms and tools as well as tactical scale soil moisture and mobility parameterizations. This learning will also include new development in Python coding.
Why should I apply?
This fellowship provides the opportunity to independently utilize your skills and engage with other scientists in innovative ideas to move the proposed research forward.
Where will I be located? Hanover, NH
What is the anticipated start date?
ERDC-CRREL is ready to make an appointment immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidates. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
What is the appointment length?
This ORISE appointment will be a part-time for six months. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
What are the benefits?
You will receive a stipend to be determined by ERDC-CRREL. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:
- Health Insurance Supplement. Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE.
- Relocation Allowance
- Training and Travel Allowance
