The DOE Scholars Program is designed to attract talented undergraduate and graduate students, and recent graduates to research, technical and professional opportunities within U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and organizations that support the DOE mission. Appointments are offered by the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs.  Scholars will become part of a group of highly trained scientists and professionals with the education, background, and experience to be part of the workforce that supports the DOE's mission in the future. 

You will have opportunities to enhance your quantitative and qualitative reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving, communication, and teamwork skills. You will receive training, mentoring, and additional support to effectively accomplish internship goals.

As a participant in the DOE Scholars Program, you will have the opportunity to explore careers in areas that support the DOE mission.

Benefits

• Stipends
  • Undergraduate students: starting at $700/week
  • Graduate students and postgraduates: starting at $750/week
• Inbound/Outbound Travel: Up to $1,000 for participants who relocate more than fifty miles, one-way, from the assigned hosting site.
• Other allowances: Depending on your project assignment, duration of appointment and funding availability, you may be eligible to receive an allowance for travel and training to promote the educational goals of your appointment.

Nature of Appointment

The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOE, or any other office or agency.  Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

To be eligible you must:

• Be a U.S. citizen.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Be pursuing or have a degree in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline or a field that supports the DOE operations mission including but not limited to communications, management, business and law.

• Transcripts/Academic Records - Unofficial transcripts or copies of the student academic records printed by the applicant or by academic advisors from internal institutional systems may be submitted. Transcripts/Academic Records must include name of the academic institution, name of the student, completed/in progress coursework and grades. Documents must have all social security numbers, student identification numbers, and/or dates of birth removed (blanked out, blackened out, made illegible, etc.) prior to uploading into the application system.
• Recommendation - You are encouraged to request a recommendation from a professional who can speak to your abilities and potential for success as well as your scientific capabilities and personal characteristics. Recommenders will be asked to complete a recommendation in Zintellect.   Recommendations are due 5/27/2025, 11:59 PM EST.
