The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence (IN) is seeking Scholars to engage in projects and activities related to IN's mission. IN is responsible for all intelligence and counterintelligence activities throughout the DOE complex, including nearly thirty intelligence and counterintelligence offices nationwide.
IN protects vital national security information and technologies, representing intellectual property of incalculable value. IN's distinctive contribution to national security is the ability to leverage the Energy Department’s unmatched scientific and technological expertise in support of policymakers as well as national security missions in defense, homeland security, cyber security, intelligence, and energy security.
The Scholar will receive training, mentoring, and additional support to effectively accomplish appointment goals. Appointments may involve projects focused on engineering, science, research, technology, policy, business, and government relations.
Stipends
The DOE Scholars Program provides stipends starting at $700 per week for undergraduate students and $750 per week for graduate students and recent graduates.
Travel
Travel reimbursement of inbound and outbound costs up to $1,000 for participants who live more than fifty miles, one-way, from the assigned hosting site.
Length of Appointment
Appointments may vary in length depending on the project assignment. Appointments may be full-time (based on 40 hours per week) or part-time.
Location
Scholars may be assigned to IN's office in Washington, DC or at a IN-approved location. Appointments may be served on site or virtually depending on project assignment.

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOE, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
