The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (OREM) is seeking Fellows to engage in projects and activities related to DOE-OREM Legacy Clean-up Missions at East Tennessee Technology Park, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Y-12 National Security Complex sites. EM's first priority is to ensure the safety and health of the public and EM's workforce while continuing to protect the environment. OREM carries out the mission using sound business practices, innovative management approaches, and science and technology to reduce risks and costs within the EM regulatory framework.
The Fellow will receive training, coaching, and mentoring from the OREM Planning and Execution Division branch chiefs and project managers to effectively accomplish appointment goals which may involve projects focused on engineering, demolition, science, technology, business, policy, and government relations. The Fellow will collaborate with Portfolio Federal Project Directors on all aspects of their projects such as basic project management, engineering, budgeting and cost control, regulatory/environmental compliance, and contractor oversight. Over the course of this fellowship, the Fellow will learn how to apply basic project management skills to real-time projects under the mentorship and guidance of the OREM Planning and Execution Division personnel.
Term - Duration will be for 24 months with possible extension.
To qualify for the DOE Oak Ridge Environmental Management Science Education and Internship Program, you will need to meet the following eligibility criteria at the time of application:
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- U.S. citizenship (verification will be required if selected).
- Be at least 18 years of age at the time the appointment begins (no exceptions).
- Be a recent post-graduate of an accredited institute of higher education. The time period between receipt of an undergraduate or graduate degree and starting the OREM appointment must be two years or less.
Successful candidates will have:
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Environmental sciences, physical sciences, and engineering backgrounds
- Proactive approach to tasks
- Ability to perform assignments on a deadline
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizen Only
- Degree: Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, or Doctoral Degree received within the last 24 month(s).
