Description

The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Analysis Center (DAC) is offering an internship at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

What will I be doing?

As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers with the Materiel Issues Analysis Team (MIAT) and to assist with installation of Predictive Logistics (PL) data collection systems on Tactical-Wheeled Vehicles (TWVs) to increase future fleet reliability and influence Army maintenance best-practices.

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands-on experience to complement your education and support your academic and professional goals. Along the way, you will engage in activities and research in several areas. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Further development and refinement of the Compact Diagnostics Package (CDP) to aid Army maintainers in diagnosis and repair of Army TWVs
  • Data analysis to better understand the predictive nature of operational data collected from required maintenance actions
  • Tools and equipment that are required to improve the performance of those actions on the modern battlefield
  • Analysis will specifically identify maintenance capability gaps caused by issues with currently employed Army materiel, training, and maintenance doctrine
  • Controller Area Network (CAN) on TWVs and gain experience with at-platform diagnostics as an enabler to PL
  • Collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams to support project deliverables
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., GCSS-Army, LMP, GFEBS, etc.) to build reports that support Army senior-leader decision making

Where will I be located? Aberdeen, Maryland

What is the anticipated start date?

Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships or fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified

What is the appointment length? 

This appointment is a six-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

What are the appointment provisions?

You will receive a stipend to be determined by DEVCOM-DAC. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other provisions may include the following:

  • Health Insurance Supplement (Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE)
  • Relocation Allowance
  • Training and Travel Allowance

About DEVCOM-DAC

The Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Analysis Center (DAC) is an Army Futures Command organization that conducts a variety of critical analyses to provide state-of-the-art analytical solutions to senior level Army and Department of Defense officials. The Analysis Center's responsive systems analysis supports the equipping and sustaining of weapons and materiel for our Soldiers in the field as well as our Future Army Force.

About ORISE

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.  Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Qualifications

The qualified candidate will currently be pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in one of the listed disciplines with an expected completion date of 5/31/2025. 

Highly competitive applicants will have education and/or experience in one or more of the following:

  • Miliary maintenance systems, practices, and protocols
  • Experimental design and associated data collection and analysis
  • Electronic and mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic tools and methodologies
  • Prior miliary experience is preferred
