Description

The Department of Defense (DoD) is offering graduate internships or fellowships at the Defense Centers for Public Health - Aberdeen (DCPH-A).

What will I be doing?

As the selected candidate, you will engage with the Defense Public Health Performance Improvement and Accreditation Team where they will learn program execution and improvements.  You will learn how the Team supports installation departments of public health at Army locations in conducting performance improvement efforts to meet nationally recognized public health accreditation or reaccreditation standards.

  • Learn program monitoring and evaluation activities to inform continual program improvements.
  • Learn how to facilitate meetings and track program activities,
  • Evaluate, develop or modify resources for use by military installation departments of public health.
  • Develop and implement virtual or in-person consultation and trainings
  • Create and facilitate communities of practice.
  • Gain experience utilizing the online toolkit and the program website
  • Collaborate with members at the installation-level, military service medical commands, and the Defense Health Agency.

Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland

What is the anticipated start date?

The DCPH-A is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships or fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

What is the appointment length? 

Appointments are initially for one year with the option to extend the appointment for up to four additional years, contingent upon project needs and funding availability.

What are the benefits? 

You will receive a stipend to be determined by DCPH. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

  • Training and Travel Allowance

About ORISE

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.  Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Qualifications

Eligible applicants will be currently pursuing or have a master's degree or Doctoral degree in public health, environmental health, health promotion, community health, and/or community or public health nursing. 

Highly competitive applicants will have education and/or experience in one or more of the following:

  • Organized
  • Strong communication skills
  • A willingness to engage in collaborative activities with various teams
  • Experience multi-tasking.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based public health and related sources of evidence
  • A desire to learn from a broad range of diverse stakeholders
