A fellowship opportunity is currently available with the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Office of the Director (OD), of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA.

The fellow will join the International Epidemiology and Research Team (IERT) within CDC's Influenza Division.  IERT is responsible for studies of the global burden and impact of influenza and assessment of influenza prevention and control measures.   The fellow with gain experience with data management and analysis activities for several large projects within IERT such as a large multi-site cohort study to evaluate the effect of influenza during pregnancy on birth and perinatal outcomes, a cohort study evaluating influenza vaccine effectiveness among health care personnel, and a multi-site study assessing influenza burden among infants.

The fellow will gain experience in:

• Data management and data support using REDCAP and other similar data entry systems, including handling and merging large datasets that include data from multiple sites and epidemiologic, laboratory, and electronic medical data

• Project management, including organizing and managing teleconferences with study partners to monitor study milestones and achievements, generating reports to track study progress, and managing IRB submissions and renewals

• Problem-solving to optimize data collection, data management, and data presentation

• Performing analyses for cohort, case-control, and cross-sectional studies

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

• Master’s Degree in Public Health earned within the past five years
• Experience with methodological techniques used to collect, analyze, and interpret highly specialized scientific data as part of disease surveillance and epidemiological studies.

• An understanding of infectious disease epidemiology and surveillance systems and methodology.

• Experience with organization of projects and quantitative data analysis is required.

• Data base management (in REDCAP and SAS) and statistical programming and quantitative analysis (in SAS) skills are required.

• Experience working internationally and in global public health is preferred.

• Degree: Master's Degree received within the last 60 month(s).
