Two research opportunities are currently available with the Data Analytics Branch (DAB), Division of Injury Prevention (DIP) within the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia.
NCIPC’s mission is to prevent violence and injuries through science and action. DIP leads CDC’s efforts to reduce unintentional injuries and self-directed harm. DAB conducts methodologic research and data analysis, addresses existing data issues and new data challenges (big, complex, non-traditional data), and develops and disseminates data, tools, and applications.
The fellowship will provide an excellent training opportunity to gain experience conducting research and statistical analyses in injury public health. The participant will be involved in projects that focus on analyzing fatal and nonfatal injury data to understand how rates vary by sociodemographic characteristics, such as gender, race/ethnicity, and rural/urban status. Projects will also include training to examine the intersection of demographics and public policy, and how these factors affect injury rates.

Throughout the fellowship, the participant will have the opportunity to collaborate with and be mentored by scientific researchers. Under the guidance of the mentors, the participant will be involved in these additional learning opportunities:
Anticipated Appointment Start Date: August 15, 2021; start date is flexible
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a master's or doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within the past five years.
