A research opportunity is available with the Division of Violence Prevention (DVP), within the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia.
The participant will be involved under the mentorship of the Application Support Unit (ASU) staff in the Office of the Branch Chief. The ASU designs, develops, manages, and maintains the applications used or sponsored by PPTB. These applications include the internal and external SharePoint sites, the DVP Partners Portal, and Microsoft Teams. The DVP Partners Portal is a cloud-based application designed for the monitoring and evaluation of PPTB Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFO) activities of funded recipients. Data support for PPTB is another function of the ASU and includes data extraction, cleaning, analysis, and visualization within and outside of the DVP Partners Portal. The ASU develops and supports cross-program reporting activities and works to streamline and standardize data collection with the DVP Partners Portal. Currently, we have five programs that address sexual, intimate partner, youth and teen dating violence, as well as child maltreatment and other adverse childhood experiences. The ASU works directly with program teams to design data collection and dissemination tools that are used to house data for program evaluation and translation.
The participant will collaborate with the ASU to standardize and compare data across programs to be visualized in the DVP Partners Portal and through dashboards using Power BI and other data visualization programs. This involves understanding program evaluation data and identifying ways to transform disparate data to make it usable and comparable. Understanding program evaluation data such as work plans, program implementation, state action plans, and evaluation plans will be key to creating useful and accurate visual representations and translation products. The participant will be expected to learn the database along with program data and collaborate on data reporting and visualizations using MS Excel and Power BI. The participant will be mentored by ASU staff but will have an opportunity to collaborate with other PPTB staff including other fellows, project and evaluation officers, and the Associate Chief of Program.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
The qualified candidate should have received a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields, or be currently pursuing a master's or doctoral degree. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.
