A fellowship opportunity is available in the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Division of Analysis, Research, and Practice Integration, at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia.

Activities may include the following:

• Undertake a comparative analysis of the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) and the BioSense Public Health Surveillance System, with view to establishing similarity of estimates (validation) and exploring potential benefits of using Biosense.
• Undertake a comparative analyses of the “real time deaths data” available from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) against completed deaths files to establish any systematic differences, and evaluate the real time deaths data for use by NCIPC to refine our current NCIPC activities and scientific advice.
• Undertake an environmental scan of new technologies (specifically: big data, visualisation, and business analytics) with view to generating a short list of these to pilot in NCIPC and evaluate their potential for improving our Injury Surveillance System.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

• Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, biometrics, or related field earned within the past five years required
• Strong background in the analysis of electronic data surveillance systems and the ability to conduct literature review as well as environmental scan of new technologies preferred
