Description

*Applications will be reviewed on a rolling-basis.

An opportunity is currently available with the Economics and Modeling Team (EMT), Health Services Research and Evaluation Branch (HSREB) within the Division of STD Prevention of the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP), at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

EMT members develop and analyze economic and epidemiologic models related to all sexually transmitted diseases. The selected participant will have the chance to learn about STD modeling, use and develop new data analysis skills, conduct literature reviews, and participate in the process of designing modeling and economic studies.

The selected participant’s research will initially focus on one project area: they will be mentored in developing age-specific vaccine impact models of gonococcal vaccine candidates. Upon completion of the vaccine modeling research, future projects could be related to cost-effectiveness models, models exploring the impact of heterogeneous sexual positioning in anatomical site-specific infections, models related to gonococcal antibiotic resistance, and models quantifying the degree of overlap in demographic sexual networks or other areas, depending on the branch’s goals and participant’s interests.
