A research fellowship is currently available in the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), Office of the Director (OD), policy team at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in Atlanta, Georgia.
The position will be in the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), Office of the Director, policy team at CDC. This office has responsibility for a number of activities including congressional requests for hearings, briefings, and information, engages in performance measurement, develops partnership strategies, and analyzes policies. The NCEZID policy team also responds to requests from CDC Office of the Director, the Government Accountability Office (GAO), and letters from congressional members, federal agencies, partner organizations, and the public. This position will specifically support the Partnerships and OD Coordination team, gaining hands on experience in identifying potential partners (including Washington DC based non-profits, think tanks, and member associations), as well as learning to develop relationships with those partners. This includes conducting partnership research, putting together briefing materials, assisting in coordinating events and meetings with partners, and supporting NCEZID programs to track partnership engagements. The fellow will have the opportunity for mentoring and developing connections across NCEZID and CDC.
The fellow will have the opportunity to be involved in the following activities:
- Developing NCEZID documents such as fact sheets and documents for partner interactions
- Interpreting and translating scientific data into easily understood materials.
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.
Applicants should be pursuing or have received a bachelor's, or master's degree in public health, communications, public administration, or related field within the last five years of the desired start date, or completion of all requirements for the degree should be expected prior to the start date.
Excellent writing and research skills, ability to take a large amount of information and condense into easily understood material, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
