A research opportunity is currently available with the Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice (DEHSP) of the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

DEHSP works to prevent exposures to environmental health hazards to improve the health of all people in all communities through applied environmental public health science and practice. This opportunity offers the ability to be involved with high-profile, high-impact issues in environmental health policy. Among the division’s many current pressing, high profile environmental public health topics with high potential for policy impact are lead, asthma, climate and health, safe water, and harmful algal blooms.
Under the guidance of a mentor, the selected participant will have the opportunity to learn about how public health surveillance and research inform public health policy and action. Participant training will involve literatures searches, database review, data analysis, and summary and reporting of key findings for various audiences and stakeholders. This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. A relocation allowance will not be provided. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a master's degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.
