A fellowship opportunity is available in the Global Immunization Division (GID) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

CDC’s Global Immunization Division is involved in one of the most effective of all global public health missions – vaccination against deadly diseases – which saves the lives of 2 to 3 million people every year. Based in Atlanta GA, GID works closely with a wide variety of partners to protect global citizens against contagious and life-threatening vaccine-preventable diseases. GID has four branches, and this position will be in the Strategic Information and Workforce Development (SIWD) branch, on the Strategic Information Team (SIT).

The purpose of the project is to support analysis of quantitative data and develop analytical solutions to enhance availability and use of monitoring and evaluation data for various projects in the SIWD branch, which implements projects and provides assistance to improve immunization information systems and workforce capacity in low- and middle –income countries. The project may require travel to provide a variety of assistance to low and middle income countries.

The fellow may be involved in the following team activities:

• Supporting complex program monitoring and evaluation data

• Ensuring data quality, accuracy and completeness

• Supporting the development of appropriate data analysis plans

• Exploring and/or statistical analyzing of quantitative data and development of semi-automated systems

• Enhancing existing data collection, management and analysis systems to streamline implementation of monitoring and evaluation activities and use of findings from these

• Co-authoring scientific papers for publication

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

Master’s (or higher) degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Public Health, or similar relevant educational background required. Applicant must have received his/her degree within the last five years, or must expect to complete all requirements for such a degree prior to starting the fellowship.

• Knowledge and experience in bio statistical methods and analytical software platforms

• Experience with development of data analysis plans, creation of data systems and workflow processes, combining data from diverse sources to construct analytic datasets and creation of semi-automated analysis platforms including data dashboards

• Intermediate to advanced capability in quantitative data analysis using a major analytical software package (SAS, R, STATA or similar) with familiarity/experience with Tableau desirable

• Knowledge of qualitative data analysis, EpiInfo and mobile data collection platforms would be advantageous

• Experience with public health program implementation and/or monitoring & evaluation, particularly in low resource settings, is desirable

• Degree: Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree received within the last 60 month(s).
