Description

A fellowship opportunity related to preconception health and health care surveillance and research is available in the Applied Sciences Branch (ASB), Division of Reproductive Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevent.

With the overarching goal of enhancing knowledge on preconception health and health care, the ASB has developed different strategies and activities. The fellow will have the following opportunities related to preconception health and health care surveillance and research:

  • Develop research and epidemiology studies related to the priority topics selected by the Preconception Surveillance and Research (PreSurv) group
  • Coordinate the analytical process and projects based on the information obtained from reproductive health questions incorporated into the 2013 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) in seven states
  • Develop publication agenda and timelines by using different data sources with priority being given to the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) and BRFSS
  • Attend PRAMS and BRFSS annual meetings and other conferences as appropriate
  • Provide support for scheduling PreSurv meetings/calls, recording minutes, drafting the action steps as appropriate and based on the calls/meetings decisions
  • Provide consultation, data analysis and translation to PreSurv members as requested
  • Assist with issues related to data use, research and epidemiology as appropriate
  • Participate in different webinars and at meetings as appropriate
  • Collaborate with different experts within the branch, division, center and agency as well as other organizations

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

Qualifications
  • Master's or doctoral degree earned within the last five years
  • Knowledge and skills in epidemiology and statistical methods, including advanced skills in statistical software such as SAS and SUDAAN preferred
  • Knowledge and skills in complex survey design and analysis preferred
