A fellowship opportunity is available in the Clinical and Environmental and Microbiology Branch (CEMB), Division of Healthcare Quality and Promotion (DHQP), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta Georgia.

Under the guidance of a CDC epidemiologist/mentor, the participant will learn how to manage and analyze data from the CDC’s Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network (AR Lab Network) surveillance projects. The AR Lab Network is a nationwide collaboration among CDC and 56 state and local health departments. The participant will assist with data entry, transmission, validation, and cleaning for the data collected through the AR Laboratory Network. The participant will learn how to detect and describe trends in novel and emerging resistance using AR Lab Network data. The participant will gain experience in communicating the work and findings of AR Laboratory Network with federal and state partners, presenting at national and regional conferences, and informing CDC and external colleagues of unique findings. The participant will gain skills in providing support outbreak and epidemiologic investigations initiated through AR Lab Network. The participant will learn all aspects of working with other teams within CEMB, other branches within the DHQP, and state and local public health partners.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.

• Master of Public Health (MPH) or higher degree in public health field with concentration or training in epidemiology.

• Knowledge of basic SAS or similar programming concepts.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite particularly Access and Excel.

• Experience in working with programs, state public health departments and/or systems, and grant management preferred.

• At least one year of public health experience preferred.

• Degree: Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree received within the last 60 month(s).
