Description

An opportunity is available in the Division of Global Migration & Quarantine (DGMQ), Travelers’ Health Branch, at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Travelers' Health Branch (THB) works to keep US residents safe and healthy while traveling and living overseas. The branch is responsible for evaluating risk, monitoring disease outcomes, developing interventions, and reducing the risk for travel-related illness in US residents. THB is also primarily responsible for the CDC publication “Health Information for International Travel” (a.k.a The Yellow Book), and interacts with travelers, the travel industry, travel medicine specialists and other health care providers.

The participant will join several health communication and education projects for travelers and travel medicine experts. The participant will train with health communication and education specialists, medical officers and subject matter experts in other areas of CDC as well as public health professionals from outside the agency.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.

Qualifications
  • Master's in Public Health received within the past five years with a focus on health communication
  • Experience in principles of clear communication and health literacy preferred 
  • Experience in creating content for and overseeing a variety of communication formats and platforms, including social media, preferred
